Productivity Hacks when Working from Home
Here are my top productivity hacks when working from home.

Create a Space
Create a working space that inspires you and is clean and uncluttered. You will be amazed at how this can affect your productivity and creativity. When I am working from home (which is 90% of my time!) I am not lucky enough to have a dedicated office space so I have made the dining room my ‘office’ and have added touches to make it ‘feel’ like the office. I have plants and inspiring quotes, a ‘vision board’ (if you are not familiar on what this is I will do a separate blog post covering this) I also have year planner and lots of files and storage to keep me super organised. And also I have notebooks. Lots of notebooks.
Make your Bed!
Such a random thing but studies have shown that this act first thing in the morning can set you up for the day! I believe it’s the completion of a task from beginning to end that gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment that you are likely then to continue through the day.
Morning Routine
I swear by this to my mind in the right space, I begin with gratitude and then a 10 minute read of a business/inspiration book.
Time Block
Probably the most important thing that I do. I plan my week out in advance and hour by hour log what task that I am doing. It sounds so simple, yet do not underestimate this one!! I bought a wedding planner that is A3 size and means that I have it on my desk easily to see. A closed diary just doesn’t cut it!! If you have not completed the task in the allotted time you will need to revisit and replan. Take Breaks. This one is easy to look over when you at home but is vitally important! I make sure to take five-minute breaks between tasks and to take a walk at lunchtime. Not only is this good for eye health if you are looking at a screen but good for your mental health and stress levels.

Set Boundaries
I like to start work at about 8.00 and work through until 6 and then it’s SHUT THE DOOR (actually I can’t physically do that as I don’t have one!) But I down tools, computer off and go to make dinner and watch some TV or have a read. I have always implemented this as no matter how busy you are, you won’t be any good to anyone if you burn out. Also ensure that other household members respect and know about your boundaries.
Dress the Part
We have all heard the stories of people going on zoom with PJ’s on the bottom half. Now I don’t know about you, but I can’t focus unless I am dressed and ready. I liken it to going to a ballet class with your hair down – it just does not feel right! I get dressed and do my hair and makeup as if I am leaving the house. Its all about mind set.
Use a different browser
Use a different browser for work. This is a GAME CHANGER for the self-employed! As I use my laptop for work and also my personal stuff, this tip is ESSENTIAL for getting organised.
