Pinterest – How to get Started

Why Pinterest?
Let us get started by looking at WHY you should absolutely be using Pinterest as part of your marketing strategy.
There are 478 miliion Pinterest users, 77% are female and the average earnings is 100K. 80% of users are looking to buy so if you have a service or a product you should most definitely be on there.
I feel it is still a relatively untapped market and you could really boost your traffic to your website exponentially. The trick here is to stop thinking of it as a platform that you aimlessly scroll through looking for inspiration for a new kitchen or a wedding – I mean, its great for this too but it is not the prime purpose. Pinterest is a visual search engine, much like google, and unlike Instagram and Facebook, this is not about algorithm, its about good, quality content. And its also not about numbers or followers, your good quality content gets shown to everyone! 80% of pins are repins, so think of the potential here!
How to Begin
Set up a ‘Business Account’ why? Because you can link to your website and also get access to powerful analytical data, if you have a personal one at present, swapping over is super simple. Go to account setting and change to business access.
Next, ensure you business profile is set up correctly, pick a nice picture of your face (people buy from people) Infuse your bio with your keywords tell people what you do. For my example go HERE
Next, set up boards. Think of what your content pillars are for your blog (if you have one) if not, think of topics that are relevant to your brand beyond just the service or products that you offer. Think of what your ideal client is searching for and name them appropriately. Start with about 20 boards with 20 pins in. For example, for an eco-cleaning company, you may go with:
- Top Tips for Eco Cleaning
- Cleaning Hacks
- Eco cleaning DIY
- Eco Cleaning products
- Best Eco cleaning products 2022
- House cleaning checklist
- Top Tips for Cleaning you house
TOP TIP – If you are stuck with this, go to the Pinterest search bar and see what others are searching for – this applies to board descriptions and captions alike. Make sure its set to All Pins.
TOP TIP – Adding the year is a great idea as people want up to date information.
Now you are all set up, its time to get to the actual Pin creation which I will cover in more details in another blog.
